The light slowly filtered through the darkness. The skies morphed from the deep blackness of predawn into brilliant oranges and pinks. The shadowy shapes around Shae slowly became distinct outlines before the light brought out the beautiful greens and browns of the trees surrounding the Fae as she watched the dawn. It was a ritual that she had begun so many centuries ago. After only a couple months in the mound, and she had missed the sights she had taken for granted while she was living among the humans. The beauty of dawn was her favorite, though dusk came very close. Most fae preferred to sneak out of the mounds in the evening. Using the cover of night to carry out their plans. As they were trickling home from a prosperous night, she went against the flow of traffic to watch the beauty unfold around her.
She leaned against the rough trunk of the tree, simply breathing in the air of the morning. It was acrid, thick, and poisonous. Still the sun seemed to burn off most of the impurities, it was the purest air one could expect in this city. She longed for the hills and heather of her home, but knew that New York was the place to keep her finger on certain pulses of the Reveal. Shae had never announced her alliances fully, not that anyone could mistake her for one of those human wannabes. Still no one knew just how deeply her distaste for the human-fae relations went.
She sighed softly, crossing her arms and adjusting her position. She was ruining the moment with any thoughts of how differently the Royalty should have handled revealing Fae kind to all the lower beings of the world.
